New Delhi: Mumbai Indians bounced back in style as they beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by seven wickets in the ninth encounter of the Women’s Premier League 2024 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday. It was Mumbai’s third win of the tournament and RCB were defeated for the second successive time which derailed their campaign quite a bit after starting on a bright note with two back-to-back wins.

Mumbai Indians who already had two wins to their name had faltered in their third fixture against UP Warriorz who claimed their first win of the tournament. After MI’s Saturday clash with RCB, the franchise has taken the top spot back in the points table (3 wins, 1 loss) as they took a giant leap from the fourth spot. RCB, who sat second before the clash, now see themselves in the fourth place, having won two and lost alike.

The Mumbai Indians fans were given a bit of shock as skipper Harmanpreet Kaur didn’t come out at the toss and Nat Sciver-Brunt again was sent in her place, making it clear that she is leading MI in the game. MI had the coin in their favor as they opted to bowl first and the bowlers did a great job by restricting the home side Bangalore to just 131/6 after 20 overs. It was veteran Ellyse Perry with her unbeaten 44 (38 balls; 5 fours), top-scoring for RCB.

Nat Sciver-Brunt and Pooja Vastrakar bagged two scalps apiece while Issy Wong and Saika Ishaque claimed one each. The chase at Chinnaswamy seems a piece of cake to the toss-winning captains and similar was the outcome from Mumbai who chased the target in a mere 15.1 overs. Openers Yastika Bhatia (31 off 15; 4 fours and 2 sixes) and Hayley Matthews (26 off 21; 3 fours and a six) gave a great head start to their side.

After their departure, skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt gave a crucial contribution of 27 runs facing 25 deliveries and hitting four fours. It was Amelia Kerr at last who stood firm on the crease and struck 40 not-out off 24 balls laced with seven fours with Vastrakar (8 off 6; 1 four) by her side. Kerr received the Player of the Match award as well for her fine and match-winning knock.

The Mumbai Indians are back to winning ways!
