Under the current rules, an H-1B worker whose employment is terminated can generally remain in the US for up to 60 days, or until the end of their authorised stay, whichever comes first. This may soon come to an end.

New Delhi: The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is considering a major change to the H-1B visa system that could remove the 60-day grace period currently available to foreign workers after they lose or leave their jobs. The proposal, still under review, could particularly affect Indian professionals, who make up a large share of the H-1B workforce in the US.
