In the world of films with splashy entries and over-the-top masculinity, Ajey: The Untold Story of a Yogi feels refreshingly different. Based on Shantanu Gupta’s book The Monk Who Became Chief Minister, the film doesn’t feel like a political biopic trying to paint yet another public figure as a superhero, but instead makes you more a part of the journey of one of our own Pahadi boys — one shaped by sincerity, honesty, and the stubborn moral compass that our mountains quietly teach.

The film opens with a scene every Uttarakhandi has lived or closely observed at some point: that of a young boy feeding his cow in the crisp morning air, the sun still lazily stretching over the ridges.
