On this week’s first episode of The Editors, Rich asks Noah about the tenuous Israel–Hamas cease-fire and hostage exchange.

“I think it’s a trap,” Noah said. “They’re dangling future releases in exchange for the extension of the cease-fire, and gradually the will to support Israel’s just and necessary war to liquidate and neutralize Hamas as a governing entity of Gaza is abating rather quickly.”

The Biden administration, he said, “is getting a lot of pressure from a very small but loud minority on its left flank to maximally de-conflict.” Adding to this, “Hamas is violating the terms of this deal,” Noah pointed out. “They’re not allowing the International Red Cross, which is a complicit organization, to meet with some of these hostages who remain hostages, which was part of the original, initial terms.”

The details are unclear, but there was an outbreak of fighting despite the cease-fire, and “shooting has resumed, and it’s incumbent on Israel to respond,” he said.

“The Israeli mission is not over here.”
