The minister of artificial intelligence, Evan Solomon, took the podium to introduce his boss in glowing terms: a great leader who cared deeply about the “scourge” of antisemitism in Canada. The event was highly anticipated, for some. Canadian Jews have been targeted with increasingly violent and frequent incitement and hatred. Carney has had little, if anything, to say. His decision to address the community was long overdue.

Carney understands the importance of addressing a community directly. At Davos, he told the gathering of global elites that middle powers must coalesce to create a New World Order to counter the reckless authoritarianism threatening our civilization.
