Dr Michael Mosley is urging people to make a simple switch this Christmas to keep their blood sugar from spiking.

The TV doctor, who is best known for creating the popular 5:2 diet, also regularly appears on ITV's This Morning.

The journalist, author and presenter has written various diet books and managed to lose more than a stone himself, even reversing his diabetes through altering his diet and exercise routines.

In a new Instagram post on his Fast 800 brand's page, Dr Mosley said people should switch their chocolate this Christmas. The post reads: "Making the switch to dark chocolate this Christmas and your blood sugars will thank you! Rich in antioxidants, lower in sugar and you’ll often find that your satiated with just one piece or two".

A graph included in the update shows a "peak glucose spike" when milk chocolate is consumed, compared with a much smaller peak with the dark chocolate.
