SAN FRANCISCO — OpenAI has quietly rolled out a new translation tool, ChatGPT Translate, positioning its flagship AI against Google Translate in a battle for dominance in the global language services market. The launch marks a significant expansion of OpenAI's product line and signals its ambition to challenge one of Google's most widely used consumer tools.

OpenAI introduced ChatGPT Translate earlier this week without a formal announcement, blog post, or press release. The tool appeared as a standalone web page on the ChatGPT site, offering a familiar interface with two text boxes side by side, automatic language detection, and instant translations in more than 50 languages.
