Commenting on the story: AI screens for autism in the blink of an eye

I read with interest about the eyeflash diagnostic tool for diagnosing Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Now all we have to do is find a cure for this disabling disorder. – David Lines

Commenting on the opinion piece: The IPA is taking Gina Rinehart for a ride down the garden path

The article by Michael Pascoe, in which he expertly and critically critiques the recent IPA paper “Analysis Of Land Use By Variable Renewable Energy Production By 2050″ is a timely reminder of the need for economic and social policies that are evidenced based and not ideologically based (indeed frequently biased and poorly researched).

Equally, the recent behaviour of the ‘big 4’ lends further support to the role of universities to more strongly support independent and impartial research conducted by the expert consulting and research groups housed in the universities. Good public policy relies on evidenced based research and communication of results.

It is a fundamental role of universities to engage in consulting, research, publication, debate and communication to improve community understanding of issues and public policy options.

To date, an observation from afar, is that the universities have failed to strategically respond to the opportunities before them by increasing their investment and activity in consulting and research services. Public policies and government would be better if they did so. – Michael O’Neill

The ‘codswallop’ is more contained in this article than the subject of its complaints. Both the IPA and CIS do invaluable research, and if they are voices in opposition to the left-wing bias of the Labor/Greens media cheer squad then that can only be a positive thing, given the overwhelming incompetence of the present government. – Damon Moon

Commenting on the story: Canberra probe into missing Iraq War documents

Let’s hope we don’t have to wait another 20 years to learn how the overnight decision was made by Labor in Sept 2021 to enter the AUKUS deal already orchestrated by Scott Morrison. – Julanne Sweeney

Commenting on Your views and First look at the latest Festival Centre upgrade

My wife and I have given up on the Festival Centre: ugly, awkward, more ups and downs than an escalator and very user unfriendly. It’s worse now than before the redevelopment.

We’re sticking to Her Majesty’s, Thebby, the Arts Theatre and the Gov for a comfortable, accessible experience. – Richard Peake
