There are lots of reasons someone might be in the UK without the right visa or documentation. For many, it’s because they came here on a visa – usually to study or work – but fell behind with the paperwork, or they couldn’t afford to renew it. Some have been brought here against their will or under false pretences, exploited, and forced to work. And some have come fleeing war, persecution, or extreme hardship.

Whatever the case, every single one of those people is human – with a story, a family, with hopes for the future. And none of them deserves to be filmed at what could be one of the lowest moments of their life – being arrested, detained and deported – and broadcast on social media.
