MAGA GOP — Heading toward the final battle
To the Editor:
If it isn’t obvious to everyone by now that the only concern the MAGA-GOP has is staying in power to benefit their own agenda — not the needs or preferences of the American people — they must be a member of the “MAGA-morons.” The GOP has proven its dysfunction among themselves and its unwillingness to work with Democrats. McCarthy lost the speakership because he dared to cross that line. I had hoped they were shaking the MAGA-spell when they kept refusing Jim Jordan the position. Then they all took another sip of the Kool-aid and unanimously elected a smarter version of Jordan “with a jacket and a better haircut.”
Without going into detail about the MAGA-GOP’s stance on background checks for access to guns, LGBTQ rights, reconfiguring voting districts to benefit Rs, willingness to shut down the government if the Dems don’t cave to their blackmail demands (the list is ad infinitum), suffice it to say, the welfare of anyone but themselves and the top one percent is not in the offing.
The Battle of Yorktown ended our fight for independence. The Battle of Appomattox Courthouse marked the end of the Civil War. Mons, Belgium was where the Canadians defeated the Germans in the last battle of WWl. Other than two atomic bombs, the last battle of WWll was The Battle of Okinawa. Unforeseen by us, the fight to save our Democracy began on Jan. 17, 2017. The most violent battle in that fight, so far, was on Jan. 6, 2021. Approximately 876,000 have died to gain our independence, freedoms, and to form and maintain our democracy in the four previously mentioned wars. They will have died in vain if the GOP wins the final battle on Nov. 5, 2024. We will be on the road to an autocracy which our ancestors fled from over 400 years ago.
