The election of Zohran Mamdani as the mayor of New York City provides a rare ray of progressive hope in bleak times. The deindustrialisation of the United States, the disappearance of stable jobs, and the struggle to make ends meet made the working people of New York very receptive to Mamdani’s consistent message to tackle the multiple dimensions of the affordability crisis.
