It might be time to call in a priest to perform last rights on the corpse that is Justin Trudeau’s Liberal movement.

If something isn’t done soon, the stench coming off the corpse of what was once the most successful political party in the Western world will be unbearable, much like listening to Trudeau.

On Wednesday, two different polling firms released results showing a 21-point gap between Trudeau’s movement and the Conservative Party of Canada under Pierre Poilievre.

Leger, the most accurate polling firm in the last two federal elections, released numbers in a poll conducted for Postmedia showing the Conservatives at 44% support nationally to 23% for the Liberals. With the NDP polling at just 17% nationally, the Conservatives have a 4-point lead over the combined Liberal and NDP vote.

Meaning that if Trudeau and NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh finally consummated their coalition agreement and merged, they still wouldn’t beat the Conservatives.

Hours later, Abacus Data, in a poll for the Toronto Star, released their poll showing the same numbers on the national front – 44% CPC, 23% LPC, 17% NDP.

Two polls from separate firms, for very distinct media companies, and the same result.

Since the latest budget from the Trudeau Liberals was released on April 16, there have been seven different polls from five different firms showing a lead of 18-21 points for the Conservatives.

In the Leger poll, Poilievre’s Conservatives hold a commanding lead in every region of the country except Quebec. A 10-point lead in Atlantic Canada, a 22-point lead in Ontario, and west of there it simply gets embarrassing.

Poilievre’s Conservatives hold a 25-point lead over the Liberals among men – 47% to 22% – and an 18-point lead among women – 42% to 24%. Among younger voters, those aged 18-34, the very people Trudeau aimed the budget at, the Conservatives have 46% support, the NDP 20% and the Liberals 17%.

Among voters 35-54, the Conservatives are at 43%, the NDP at 21% and the Liberals at 20%.

Budget 2024 was an utter failure for the Trudeau Liberals. They promised billions in new spending, they cravenly attempted to attract younger voters, and the results speak for themselves.

Among their most coveted demographics they are in third place.

Part of this is that voters are simply done with Justin Trudeau after nearly nine years of him being in power. The problem for the party is that they have transformed themselves from a successful party into a movement built around Trudeau himself.

They refer to themselves as a movement, but few Canadians still want to move with Trudeau.

Asked by Leger who would make the best prime minister, 32% of Canadians said Poilievre, that’s lower than his party numbers but still double Trudeau. Just 16% chose Trudeau and only 11% chose Singh — which is below the 14% who said none of the above and the 14% who said they didn’t know.

It’s not just the polling numbers that show Trudeau’s Liberal movement is slipping away into the dark abyss, the fundraising numbers tell their own story. The latest fundraising figures show the Conservatives raising three times as much money as the Liberals in the first three months of the year.

Between January and March, the Conservatives raised $10.7 million, the Liberals $3.1million and the NDP $1.3 million.

If an election were held today, it’s clear that Trudeau would be thrown out of office and the Liberal Party — make that “movement” — would be decimated. The only thing keeping Trudeau in power is Singh and the other MPs waiting to secure their six-year pensions in 2025.

The current government needs to be defeated, Canadians should be headed to the polls, but a collection of MPs will hang on for dear life to ensure they qualify for their pensions next year.

Our democracy isn’t well served when people are voting for their own personal interests instead of the country’s best interests.

The smell of death hangs over Trudeau’s Liberals, let’s pray we can exorcise them from our national life sooner rather than later.
