Ed was an award-winning young journalist with the East Anglian Daily Times and Ipswich Star - but his passion in life has always been railways, both old and new.

While he was working in Ipswich he spent much of his spare time driving the steam locomotive at the Mid Suffolk Light Railway and learning the ropes as a fireman on the North Norfolk Railway at Sheringham.

Eventually the lure of the railway line became too much and Ed hung up the pen to become a signaller with Network Rail - and has since moved on to other jobs in the industry.

He is now operations manager for the Railway 200 Exhibition Train that will be touring Great Britain from the early summer this year until 2026.
