Norfolk County Council closed Haven Bridge to vehicles for 12 days from Monday so it can undergo work costing £118,000.

The work until December 12 will see all barriers replaced, repairs to the paths and parapet fencing, replacement of all timber blocks on the bridge deck and system upgrades.

Pedestrians will still have access to the bridge, except on December 10 and 11 when both paths will be closed for test lifts.

However traders are angry at the decision to close the bridge just as the Christmas period kicks in.

Yasmin Harwood, 71, owner of Unique Sweets at the Great Yarmouth Market, said: "The roadworks have killed the town.

"It is the best part of the year. They just don't consider the businesses that it is going to impact.
