Supermarkets at war over Sainsbury's town store bid

Sainsbury's has been given the go-ahead to open its first-ever store in the town.

The approval came despite late objections from supermarket giant Morrisons, which has a store based opposite the proposed new business.

Morrisons had argued a rival store would be against planning policy for town centres.

But now up to 100 jobs could be created as grocery giant Sainsbury's looks set to open its first supermarket in the area at a vacant store this year.
