Mosque plans would cause 'unacceptable harm' to former pub, council warns
The Norwich Muslim Centre wants to transform the Gatehouse on Dereham Road into a place of worship and community centre, lodging plans with Norwich City Council last month.
However, officials say proposals for an extension to accommodate a new prayer hall are not supported by the authority's conservationists.

In response to the consultation, Jack Pearce, the council's conservation and design officer, wrote it would "cause an unacceptable degree of harm" to the building and that the new block is "inappropriate".
"The new structure in no way complements this variety of form and composition and is best described as monolithic, modernist and utilitarian, which does not serve to enhance the existing building," he added.
