We had all our kids during the 1990s so I spent the decade glued to the likes of Rosie and Jim and the Tellytubbies rather than falling in love with Britpop.

My music buddy Jon, on the other hand, has seen OCS on countless times around the country.

As soon as tickets for the Norwich leg of their Norwich tour came available, there was no keeping us both away.

"You'll love them," Jon told me simply.

Simon Fowler, Steve Cradock and Co were roared on to the stage by a packed out 1500-strong UEA LCR crowd.

From the moment they kicked off with One The Road to the end of The Day We Caught The Train which completed the encore, we were all transfixed.

Some long-time fans belted out every word of every number from Robin Hood to Hundred Mile High City to The Riverboat Song. Others merely watched and appreciated the rip-roaring talents of some of the greats of modern British rock.

"You're not students!" Fowler joked as the lights went up and he glanced across the rammed LCR.

He turned the age-related humour on himself as he recalled the first song he wrote aged 16.

It mattered not how old you were or if you'd seen the Birmingham band 25 times or never before. They were musically spectacular.

Jon, you were spot on - and it will certainly be less than 53 more years before I see the boys again!

Ocean Colour Scene were very ably supported by West Country alternative indie folk duo Burr Island.

Best friends Tom England and Oskar Porter - who played at the LCR with a full band - have worked closely with Steve Cradock which led to their tour with OCS as well as Paul Weller and are gaining increasing support on national radio including BBC Radio 2 and BBC 6 Music.

Keep a close eye out for them.
