The picture was posted by Steffan Aquarone, Liberal Democrat MP for North Norfolk, as part of his campaign for improved rural bus services.  

The row was sparked after Mr Aquarone shared the black and white picture of the elderly woman at a bus stop alongside the slogan: “Life’s too short to miss the bus”.

The image drew criticism from Sanders Coaches, a family-run company which operates many of the area’s rural and coastal routes.
