Trouble flared at Waxham's Poplar Farm, which is owned by Anna Mudeka, with witnesses saying a man used an axe and crowbar to smash up a van parked at the site and the sound system inside, causing £5,000 of damage.

Police were called and arrested one man. He has since been charged with three counts of criminal damage.

The incident at the weekend comes less than a month after the campsite was in headlines when council officials tried to stop music events being held there this summer because of concerns they would descend into unofficial raves on the nearby beach.

At a council meeting, Ms Mudeka launched a passionate defence of her business and persuaded councillors to go against the official advice and permit the events to be held.

There was no official event being held over the weekend and the party on the beach was not linked to the campsite or on its property.

However, the violence broke out on the campsite itself when revellers - some of whom were staying there - returned to the site and were asked to leave.

The party had been held overnight on Saturday and police were first called at around 7am on Sunday to reports of an unlicensed beach party.

By the time officers arrived, it had wound down, and they left the scene.
