Warning issued over UTI death after sample left untested due to out‑of‑date bottle

A coroner issued a warning after the inquest of Anthony Lodge, who died at his home in County Durham in July from a severe urinary tract infection (UTI).

The inquest heard that a critical urine sample taken days before his death could not be tested because the container used was out of date.

The container was manufactured by International Scientific Supplies Ltd (ISS), a Bradford-based company that supplies medical sample bottles to NHS trusts and healthcare providers across the country - including in Norfolk and Waveney.
