Parents 'devastated' as school PTA disbands amid claims of 'purge'

The Friends of Kessingland, a charity that helped run fundraising events at Kessingland Church of England Primary Academy, formally dissolved the organisation at an extraordinary meeting on November 28.

One member, who did not wish to be named, said: “I’m really disappointed. People who have been there for years, and given so much time and effort, are absolutely devastated it’s come to this."

Members said tensions began when the school failed to authorise Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificates for volunteers - a claim the school disputes.

The PTA member said: “Many members were struggling to get their DBS certificates. We couldn’t understand what the delay was.

"We’d had DBSs done before, no problems. They usually take a couple of weeks. But 18 months later some members still don't have theirs.
