The Conservative-run council's newly-unveiled 2026/2027 budget proposals - which include £42.3m in savings, efficiencies and cuts to help plug a funding gap - are based on a 4.99pc hike in the share of people's bills which go to County Hall's coffers.

The increase will generate an extra £28.8m for the council, but will add £87.75 to the annual bill a Band D homeowner pays Norfolk County Council, up from £1,755.63 to £1,843.38.

A Band B homeowner will pay an extra £68.25 each year - an increase from £1,365.49 to £1,433.74.

It marks the third consecutive year the county council will have agreed a 5pc increase - the maximum possible - in its share of council tax, which includes a percentage ring-fenced for adult social care.

But despite the rise, the council's budget also features proposed savings and cuts.

That includes savings of £22.1m from adult social care and £11.4m from children's services, although council leaders say they are also investing £76.3m to bring improvements.

Much of the savings........
