Grinch claim as Tories in Christmas jumpers rail against two-child benefit cap axe

The Conservative group at County Hall came under fire for using the final full council meeting before December 25 to criticise the Labour government's decision to abolish the cap.

Mrs Mason Billig put forward a motion that the council should express its "deep concern" at the end of the limit on claiming means-tested child-related benefits.

It also proposed a letter to the government about the financial consequences on Norfolk, saying abolishing the cap without a "clear, fully costed and funded plan is fiscally irresponsible".

The motion said: "Removing the cap may encourage larger family sizes........
