Plans to extend caravan park season withdrawn after refusal warning

McDonnell Caravans has told West Norfolk Council it wished to withdraw the proposals for the site it operates at Holme, near Hunstanton, "with immediate effect".

Holkham Estate, which owns the park, later said it had withdrawn the plans "to provide more time to assess the situation".

The climb-down came after it was told its bid to allow 11-month occupancy of the park behind the village's White Horse pub would be thrown out by council planning officer Clare Harpham.

"At the current time I have objections from both the Environment Agency and our senior ecologist," she said in an e-mail dated January 6.

"Given the proximity to the designated European sites and the need for further ecology surveys it would not be possible to resolve the issues within the timeframe of this application and therefore it will be refused."
