Bob Iger is tired. Exhausted and overwhelmed even. He has joked privately with friends that he’s not sure why he boomeranged back into the Walt Disney Co. chief executive officer role, and publicly he’s said the job is much more challenging than he expected.

And it’s no wonder. In the year since returning to the CEO job, Iger has found himself facing off against a series of adversaries motivated not purely by financial interests but rather by personal grudges and vendettas. That’s complicating Iger’s ability to address the true problems swirling around Disney, which include a series of box office flops and a streaming business the company is still trying to turn profitable.
