Lavrov accuses Western capitals of sabotage as Trump’s draft Ukraine peace plan leaks

The diplomatic storm surrounding a leaked US peace proposal has escalated sharply, with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov accusing European leaders of intentionally undermining Washington’s mediation efforts. The controversy, which erupted after US media outlets and a Ukrainian lawmaker published what they claimed was a 28-point roadmap to end the Ukraine conflict, has laid bare the widening fissures between the United States and its European allies over how – or whether – to negotiate an end to the war.

For Moscow, the leak confirms what it has long suspected: that certain Western governments, particularly in Europe, view any negotiated settlement as a threat to their strategic objectives in Eastern Europe. Lavrov, speaking on November 25, framed the disclosure not as accidental but as a calculated act of sabotage aimed at torpedoing President Donald Trump’s diplomatic initiative before it could gather momentum.

According to Lavrov, the manner and timing of the leak were deliberate.

“It was leaked on purpose to fan the media hype,” he said, insisting that the orchestrators sought to distort Trump’s peace plan “according to their wishes” and weaken any political or diplomatic space for negotiations. The leak, he said, appeared to originate from circles aligned with European leaders who have consistently opposed any deal that would require Ukraine to shift its long-standing red lines.

Lavrov specifically singled out French President Emmanuel Macron for criticism, suggesting that Paris – long a vocal advocate of continued support for Kiev – harbors “not the best intentions” when it comes to peace negotiations led by Washington.
