Even Republicans are 'sick of the stupid' about Greenland

Stephen Miller is not a stupid person. But he plays one on television.

President Donald Trump's deputy chief of staff exacerbated a truly stupid international crisis during a Jan. 5 interview with CNN, when asked about officials in Denmark objecting to a Jan. 3 social media post from his wife, former Trump staffer Katie Miller, that showed a map of Greenland covered in an American flag with the word, "SOON."

Katie Miller's post landed just a few hours after a deadly American military strike in Venezuela to capture that country's illegitimate leader, Nicolás Maduro. The message was not meant to be subtle: Greenland was next, Miller's wife was saying.

Greenland is a self-governing, autonomous part of the Kingdom of Denmark. America has recognized Denmark's connection to Greenland since 1917 and still has a joint defense agreement in place, updated in 2004, acknowledging that.

That defense agreement says ties between the United States and Denmark and Greenland "are based on the democratic and freedom-loving values we share, our common commitment to international peace and security," along with a desire "to strengthen good neighbourly relations and friendship, as well as reinforce close and lasting relations."

With friends like that, why is Trump trying to make them enemies?

The backlash came quick for Miller. Republicans in the U.S. Senate made it clear that he should knock off the tough talk........
