Police officers fatally shoot Arab Israeli man, say he posed threat to their lives
Police shot and killed an Arab Israeli man overnight Thursday in Ibtin, after he allegedly opened fire at a house in the northern Bedouin town.
In a statement, police said that its forces “neutralized an armed suspect who shot towards a house in Ibtin.” The officers, from the Zevulun police station, were taking part in an anti-crime operation in the town at the time.
Medics declared him dead at the scene, Magen David Adom said.
The deceased, a 29-year-old man named as Sham Shami, was from the coastal city of Acre and lived with his mother at his uncle’s house in Ibtin, Ynet reported.
The man’s relative, Aref Naarani, rejected the police’s version, telling the Hebrew outlet that officers in an undercover vehicle ran into Shami on his motor scooter, got out of the vehicle then shot him point-blank.
