Defense giant RTX (Raytheon) is on track to produce 1,000 of the advanced cruise missiles per year—up from 60.

RTX subsidiary Raytheon will bolster production of the much-needed and highly expended Tomahawk cruise missiles for the US Navy. The company received a multi-year contract valued at an “unprecedented” $22.9 billion, as part of the Pentagon’s “Arsenal of Freedom” initiative.

The contract, which Raytheon announced on Monday, follows a previous agreement between the Department of Defense (DoD) and the major defense contractor that called for production to increase to more than 1,000 of the missiles annually, along with support for the platform.

“Tomahawk is the Navy’s most important strike weapon, able to target hostile forces hundreds of miles away without ever risking the lives of our sailors,” said Raytheon President Phil Jasper.  “We are making significant investments in our workforce, technology, supply chain and facilities to dramatically boost production capacity and meet surging demand.”
