Pakistan’s Western Flank

The International Crisis Group has underscored a reality long familiar to Pakistan: the Taliban’s takeover of Kabul has left Pakistan disproportionately exposed to militant violence. With over 600 security personnel killed in 2025 alone, largely in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, the threat is neither abstract nor distant. Cross-border militancy, chiefly from the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), continues unabated, with Kabul refusing to act against groups 

operating from Afghan soil.
