Stefanik and Dolan carry Trump’s stain
Two high-profile Trump acolytes brought joy to many when they recently announced their departure from public life.
Rep. Elise Stefanik and Cardinal Timothy Dolan, each in their own way, helped usher in the Trump era and will now live with an indelible stain on their character.
Stefanik, who once called Trump “insulting to women” and a “whack job,” ultimately decided he was her ticket to power.
No subservient gesture proved too humiliating, no principle too disposable. Blind ambition consumed her, and the country be damned.
She nearly succeeded when Trump floated a UN ambassadorship, only to discard her once she was no longer useful. So complete was the rejection that she failed to come within 20 points of Kathy Hochul in her gubernatorial bid.
For reasons best left unexplained, Dolan likewise anointed Trump his candidate of choice.
He made this clear through cringeworthy fawning at the Alfred E. Smith Dinner, a Fox & Friends appearance praising Trump’s “leadership,” and a studied silence in the face of Trump’s lies and cruelty.
