EDITORIAL: Share your views on I-890 redesign plans
If you’ve ever driven your car, ridden your bike or walked in the vicinity of I-890 exits 4B and 4C in Schenectady, then — as grandma used to say — “God bless ya.”
Not only is the area known for traffic backups, accidents, near-accidents and an overall fog of confusion as drivers negotiate the area around Erie Boulevard, General Electric, SUNY Schenectady and the Stockade, but the infrastructure is old, the lighting is bad, and the design compels drivers to speed and cut in and out of lanes dangerously.
The good thing is that Schenectady County officials have several options for improving conditions in that area, and they’re seeking the public’s input on several final redesign proposals.
