EDITORIAL: Get water pipes inspected for toxic lead

If you want to know how dangerous the federal Environmental Protection Agency considers lead in drinking water to be, consider what the EPA considers the “maximum contaminant level goals” for lead in drinking water.

Zero. None. Absolutely no level of lead is considered acceptable for safe drinking.

Even at low-exposure levels, lead can be harmful to human health. And it accumulates in the body over time.

Exposure is particularly dangerous to young children, infants and fetuses, having been linked to behavioral and learning problems, low IQ, anemia, slowed growth, hearing problems and impairment of the function of the nervous system and blood........
