Iran spurns ‘unrealistic’ US peace proposal 

Iran again shot down a peace proposal from the U.S. on Monday, calling it “unrealistic.” The rejection comes as the countries approach a deadline imposed by President Trump for the Strait of Hormuz to be reopened or Iran would face “all Hell,” with military strikes on power plants.

The U.S. and Iran received a draft ceasefire proposal from third-party mediators to stop the conflict, per multiple reports.

“The Iranian Foreign Ministry officially rejects the reported ‘15-point’ U.S. proposal as ‘unrealistic.’ Iran firmly refuses any negotiations conducted under the shadow of illegal sanctions, military threats, or coercion. #Diplomacy requires mutual respect, not pressure,” the Iranian government said in a post on the social platform X.

The Associated Press, citing two Middle Eastern officials, reported that mediators from Egypt, Pakistan and Turkey sent a proposal to Washington and Tehran with terms including a ceasefire lasting 45 days and the Strait of Hormuz reopening.

Last month, Iran waved off a 15-point U.S. ceasefire proposal, according to a state-run news agency. The outlet was told by an “informed person” that the Middle Eastern country “does not accept a ceasefire.

‘Basically, it is not logical to enter into such a process with those who violate the agreement,” the person stated, per the outlet.

In a brief phone interview with The Hill on Sunday, President Trump said that he was not ruling out troops on the ground in Iran if the country does not come to a deal.

“Normal people would make a deal. Smart people would make a deal,” Trump said. “If they were smart they would make a deal.” 

Earlier Sunday, Trump said the U.S. would target Iran’s power plants and bridges on Tuesday if a deal is not reached and Iran does not open the Strait of Hormuz. He threatened to strike the country’s infrastructure and pressed Tehran to “open the F—in’ Strait, you crazy bastards.”
