Fewer in US, Canada say it’s a good time to find a job: Gallup

Fewer people in both the U.S. and Canada said it was a good time to find a job in 2025 in comparison with the year before, according to a new report from Gallup.

In the Gallup State of the Global Workplace report, 47 percent of respondents in the U.S. and Canada called it “a good time” to go job searching, down 10 points from the prior year and down 19 points from 2023.

Forty-four percent of Canadian and American women in the poll called it a good time to go job searching, while 49 percent of men from both countries said the same.

Thirty-seven percent of those under 35 in the countries did not find the moment good for job searching, with 51 percent of those 35 and older saying the same.

In 2025, the U.S. went through its worst nonrecession year of job growth, hitting an average of about 50,000 new jobs per month during President Trump’s first year back in office. Inflation also stayed over the Federal Reserve’s target of 2 percent annual price growth.

According to a report from late last year, U.S.-based employers cut more than 1.17 million jobs between January and November 2025, the highest level since the COVID-19 pandemic’s first year.

The Gallup survey for its report took place between January and December 2025, with 1,000 people featured for every country, with a margin of sampling error between 0.26 percentage points and 2.37 percentage points for specific regions of the world.
