Appeals court upholds Navarro contempt of Congress convictions

A federal appeals court on Tuesday upheld the contempt of Congress conviction against Peter Navarro, finding the White House advisor could not prove that President Trump claimed executive privilege in order to block testimony to the House Jan. 6 committee. 

Navarro already has served a four-month prison sentence for his contempt of Congress conviction, but has returned to court seeking to overturn the ruling.

In a book published in 2021, Navarro took credit for a plan to delay the congressional certification of Joe Biden’s victory over Trump in the 2020 presidential election — writings that caught the eye of the Jan. 6 select committee.

But Navarro never showed for a slated deposition following a subpoena, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit upheld a lower court ruling finding that Navarro never established that Trump had asserted executive privilege to bar his testimony.
