Trump faces backlash over AI image of him as Jesus

President Trump is facing a conservative backlash from some of his supporters after posting an image created with Artificial Intelligence depicting himself as Jesus healing sick people.

The image, posted on Truth Social Sunday, shows him in a religious garb with his hand on a sick man’s head. In the image he’s surrounded by his followers, an American flag, eagles and the Statue of Liberty, along with other figures in the sky.

Those criticizing the post on social media were quick to call it blasphemous and called for the president to remove it.

“Why? Seriously, I cannot understand why he’d post this. Is he looking for a response? Does he actually think this?” conservative political activist Riley Gaines wrote on X early Monday,

“Either way, two things are true,” she wrote. “1) a little humility would serve him well 2) God shall not be mocked.”

Conservative political commentator Michael Knowles weighed in saying, “I assume someone has already told him, but it behooves the President both spiritually and political to delete the picture, no matter the intent.”

Former GOP Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene wrote on X that she was “praying against” the post.

“On Orthodox Easter, President Trump attacked the Pope because the Pope is rightly against Trump’s war in Iran and then he posted this picture of himself as if he is replacing Jesus,” she wrote. “This comes after last week’s post of his evil tirade on Easter and then threatening to kill an entire civilization. I completely denounce this and I’m praying against it!!!”

The image came shortly after Trump posted a lengthy statement against Pope Leo XIV who has been vocal against Trump’s war with Iran.

“Pope Leo is WEAK on Crime, and terrible for Foreign Policy,” he wrote.

He went on to say he likes the Pope’s brother Louis “much better than I like him, because Louis is all MAGA. He gets it, and Leo doesn’t!”

“I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s OK for Iran to have a Nuclear Weapon,” he wrote. “”I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s terrible that America attacked Venezuela.”

Pope Leo in response Monday said he has “no fear” of Trump.

The battle comes as Trump seeks to end a war with Iran that has divided his MAGA base and led to skyrocketing gas prices in the U.S.

The two sides announced a ceasefire last week, but weekend negotiatations falled to break an impassed on critical issues.

Trump on Sunday said he would be imposing a blockade on the Strait of Hormuz.
