Trump extends pause on striking Iranian energy infrastructure to April
President Trump announced Thursday that he is extending the Pentagon’s pause on striking Iranian energy infrastructure to April at the request of the Iranian government.
“As per Iranian Government request, please let this statement serve to represent that I am pausing the period of Energy Plant destruction by 10 Days to Monday, April 6, 2026, at 8 P.M., Eastern Time,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.
“Talks are ongoing and, despite erroneous statements to the contrary by the Fake News Media, and others, they are going very well,” he continued.
Trump initially ordered a five-day pause on strikes on Iranian energy facilities on Monday after he threatened to target the country’s energy sites over the weekend.
In Trump’s initial announcement earlier this week, he indicated talks with Iran were progressing.
On Thursday, Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff confirmed at the president’s Cabinet meeting that the U.S. has presented a 15-point action list that serves as a framework of a peace plan with Iran, adding that the Pakistani government has acted as mediator between Washington and Tehran.
Iran has said that it is reviewing a U.S. plan to end the war but has also indicated that it is not negotiating with the U.S. It continues to insist that the war end and that Iran controls the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic choke hold that sees some 20 percent of the world’s oil pass through it.
Trump also revealed at the Cabinet meeting that Iran’s “present” to the U.S., which he mentioned earlier this week, was the passage of 10 oil-carrying ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
The strait’s closure since the beginning of the war has resulted in increased gasoline prices, which Trump and the administration have sought to downplay.
