Drudge compares Trump to Carter in approval ratings jab
Matt Drudge took another swipe at President Trump on Wednesday, comparing him to former President Jimmy Carter and his approval ratings during the late 1970s and early 1980s
“Trump approval rating 32 percent,” the banner headline on the Drudge Report read early Wednesday morning, linking to an American Research Group poll.
“Matching Carter Lows,” the stacked headline continued, linking to a second survey showing Carter’s approval rating plummeting during the summer of 1980.
Drudge made a name for himself online catering to right of center audiences with splashy headlines on his news aggregation website.
After initially signaling support for Trump during his first run for the White House, Drudge has emerged as a critic of the president, routinely mocking him and needling him with headlines about his policies and public statements.
Trump has seen his approval rating decline in recent months amid concerns about the economy and ongoing war with Iran.
Some Republicans have expressed worry about how the cost of living and conflict in the Middle East could hurt the party in November’s midterm elections.
