Malaysian Court Rejects Former PM Najib’s House Arrest Bid

The Kuala Lumpur High Court has ‍dismissed jailed ‍former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak’s bid to serve the remainder of his sentence for corruption at his home, ruling that a royal document allowing the ⁠move was invalid.

Najib, who who has been imprisoned since August 2022 for his role in the multibillion-dollar 1MDB corruption scandal, has brought legal action aiming to compel Malaysian authorities to ‍confirm and execute a royal “addendum order” that he claims was issued last year as part of a pardon by Sultan Abdullah Ahmad Shah of Pahang, the country’s then-king. He said the order entitled him to serve the remainder of his sentence at ​home, but had been deliberately ignored or concealed by the authorities.
