The night Joel McGregor announced himself for Swindon Town
The goal against Cheltenham Town might not have been Joel McGregor’s, but this was still the night when he announced himself as a key part of this squad.
After 57 minutes of struggling against Cheltenham once again, Finley Munroe stuck a corner right under the crossbar. Joe Day flapped at it, and the ball dropped out for McGregor ten yards out. He darted towards it and got a head on the ball to send it at goal. The ball crashed off the top of the defender’s head and against the bar before finally bouncing out, and there was Aaron Drinan on hand to force the ball over the line and not leave Swindon without a goal by the narrowest margins, as happened twice against Milton Keynes Dons. A crucial moment in a game of massive importance.
At the time, I was pretty sure McGregor’s header was over the line, but the reverse angle does pretty clearly show that........
