Girls are fueling the flag football boom. Here’s why it matters for youth sports
A powerful shift is unfolding in youth sports across the country, and it’s being driven by girls.
Flag football, long considered a sport dominated by men, is now witnessing a dramatic rise in women’s participation. We’re witnessing it firsthand: Girls’ enrollment in flag football programs at i9 Sports has jumped 45% since last year. In just the past few months, we’ve also seen a notable increase in girls participating in our skill-based clinics.
The youth sports industry is one of the most influential for shaping young lives. It’s where confidence is built, leadership is forged and lifelong values are instilled. Flag football is one of its fastest-growing segments, propelled by a perfect storm of media exposure, school-sanctioned programs and a historic milestone: Flag football will debut at the 2028 Olympics in L.A.
We believe that the increase of girls’ participation in flag football is more than a success metric — it’s a call to action. These girls are not just joining the game but reshaping it. They’re stepping onto fields once........
