Protests and police present at Boxing Day hunt
Abergavenny’s traditional Boxing Day hunt got underway amid the presence of both supporters and protesters.
Starting outside The Angel Hotel at 11am — the hunt’s traditional meeting point — horses, riders and hounds made their way through the town centre.
The Boxing Day event is a long-standing tradition in the town, dating back more than 80 years.
Protesters opposed to trail hunting with dogs lined the route, holding placards branding huntsmen “cowards” and calling for an end to fox hunting.
Police were present to ensure the event passed without incident.
Video footage from the day captures protesters chanting “shame on you” at hunt supporters, while some local participants were heard responding with calls of “see you next year.”
Hunting wild mammals with dogs was outlawed more than a decade ago, but trail hunting — where hounds follow a scent........
