Bangladesh’s Battle Against Subversion – OpEd

In the aftermath of Bangladesh’s recent revolutionary upheaval, a disquieting reality has emerged. The fall of the Awami League Government, long criticized for its oppressive policies and perceived subservience to India, was initially hailed as a potential turning point for the nation. The streets that once echoed with chants for freedom were briefly illuminated with the promise of a new beginning. Yet, as the dust settles, a more insidious threat has become glaringly evident: India’s deliberate and aggressive attempts to reverse the course of this revolution. Central to this destabilization campaign is Ajit Doval, India’s National Security Advisor (NSA), whose strategies have fueled discord and unrest in Bangladesh.

For years, India’s influence over Bangladesh has been a well-documented reality, with the Awami League’s leadership often seen as a proxy for Indian interests (Chakma, 2021). The relationship was characterized by political manipulation, economic leverage, and covert intelligence operations designed to align Bangladesh’s policies with New Delhi’s strategic objectives. The Awami League, under Sheikh Hasina Wajid, was perceived not only as an ally but also as a vehicle for India’s broader regional ambitions (Samaddar, 2019). The Government’s collapse has delivered a critical blow to India’s plans, agitating an immediate and nefarious response from New Delhi.
