The murder trial of a former San Francisco rock band member took a dramatic turn when a chilling audio file that appeared to record the killing on an iPhone app was played in court.

Theo Lengyel, 54, has been charged with murder in the killing of his girlfriend, Alice Herrmann, 61, whose body was found dumped in Tilden Park in December 2023. The former tech worker and saxophonist in funk-metal band Mr. Bungle has not denied killing Herrmann, but his lawyers say the circumstances do not rise to the category of first-degree murder; Lengyel has pleaded not guilty.

Last week, jurors were presented with an audio file recorded with the app Just Press Record on Herrmann’s phone during her last moments,........
