'We haven't seen him in forever': Brandon Aiyuk has ghosted the 49ers

LATEST Dec. 14, 5:10 p.m. After the 49ers beat the Tennessee Titans to pick up their 10th win of the season, head coach Kyle Shanahan addressed why the 49ers placed wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk on the reserved list with a "left squad" designation on Saturday.

In his postgame press conference after Sunday's game, Shanahan said Aiyuk's decision to effectively ghost the team made it an easy call for general manager John Lynch and the 49ers' front office.

"We haven't seen him in forever," Shanahan said. "That's the decision they made, but it's pretty simple for me. I mean, I haven't seen him in a month and same with our team. It hasn't been an issue with our team at all, kinda been plugging away and [it's] no big deal, or it's something we've been used to for a while."

When asked if anyone has been in touch with Aiyuk, Shanahan replied, "Not that I've talked to."

The move will effectively end Aiyuk's time with the 49ers, and it's been reported that Aiyuk isn't fighting the contractual moves the 49ers have made to void his guarantees because he's wanting to leave San Francisco. But when asked if the 49ers are done with their former first-round pick, Shanahan at least left some window open for a possible (if extremely unlikely) return in 2026.
