Robert Spence from Highgate and one of his crew members (John Wood), set out from their crashed Wellington bomber in the desert of Libya and Egypt. They were trying to make it to British lines, which were about 480 kilometres from their crash site. They had been out in the scorching desert for more than 19 days and things did not look good.

Even though they were running out of water, they managed to sabotage some German communication lines by........
