Healthy habits to help keep your mind sharp

From exercise and sleep to healthy fats and social connection, these expert-backed habits may help support memory, focus, and long-term brain health

Plenty of people worry about losing their memory. Far fewer know which habits actually make a difference.

According to The Healthy, nearly half of adults between ages 50 and 64 report concerns about brain health, memory problems, or dementia. Yet many people spend more time buying supplements or downloading puzzle apps than focusing on the everyday habits experts say matter most.

That's understandable. Brain health can feel mysterious. Most of us notice our brains only when we forget a name, lose a train of thought, or walk into a room with absolutely no idea why we went there in the first place.

The encouraging news is that keeping your mind sharp doesn't require a dramatic lifestyle overhaul. Many of the habits linked to better cognitive health are things you can start today.

According to The Healthy, factors such as diet, exercise, sleep, stress management, learning new skills, and maintaining meaningful relationships all play a role in supporting cognitive function as we age. None of these habits can guarantee you'll avoid memory problems entirely. But research suggests they may help keep your brain healthier, more resilient, and better equipped for the years ahead.

The best part? Most of them are already hiding in plain sight.
