7 Tips for Managing Political Divides Over the Holidays
The holidays can feel particularly fraught for those dreading family gatherings in the wake of an election. Political divides often stir deep emotions, and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or uncertain about how to engage. However, managing these moments effectively depends on a few key considerations.
How you approach political conversations often reflects your broader conflict management style and family history. If sensitive topics were avoided in your family or past attempts at dialogue didn’t go well, it’s understandable to feel anxious or hesitant. Ask yourself: Do I have a reference point where difficult conversations have been handled successfully? If not, it may be helpful to lower your expectations for the discussion and focus instead on keeping interactions more general and constructive.
