So how did we get into this situation?

First, the province has been slow and unsteady when it comes to responding to this power crisis. And let’s be perfectly clear: The provincial government has complete legislative authority under the Electric Power Act to make sure that Maritime Electric is providing adequate and reliable services. For that reason, the ball is in the provincial government’s court.

But, given the severity of the problem, I believe it is important to set aside criticism for the time being — and begin to focus on some real solutions.
